Lease Update

Negotiations with the landlords about the terms of the new tenancy are continuing. We are being advised by our solicitors Hugh James and are actively reviewing whether we need to trigger the court process as a means of getting a fair deal for the club. The good news is that we know that the immediate short-term future of the club is secure.

Our recent EGM gave overwhelming support to the committee to incur expenditure by going to court if necessary. We have also held a very well-attended event for our neighbours and continue to receive much-valued support from that quarter.

We are very confident that we can get better terms than those currently on offer and will continue to keep you informed.

Neighbours Turn Out in Numbers to Support the Club

Yesterday, 6 July, was a hugely busy day at the club! Not only was the men’s first team playing and winning in the top division of Welsh tennis, there was an incredibly successful social tennis afternoon with a sumptuous tea as well as a neighbours’ event.

In the early evening, concerned neighbours from the local area came to the clubhouse to hear an update on the lease. They were told how the club had tried to reach an agreed position with the landlords to safeguard the community asset but that this had not been possible and that whilst we still hope to secure a deal directly with the landlords, we have had no choice but to begin formal legal proceedings to protect our position.

The many neighbours during the day heard that the next step is an EGM on 18 July to secure the authority required to spend the significant sums needed to go through the full court process. The mood of the neighbours was hugely supportive with many strong pledges to provide financial support and professional advice, free of charge, if required.

A hugely successful day!

Vintage For Victory 2019 – 12th-14th July

Vintage 2019Due to the success of last year’s event, we will be supporting the Vintage for Victory this year with some ‘retro’ tennis on a mini grass court. We are able to offer members a discounted rate for the by using the code WTC2019 from the website: with under 16′s going free.

Open to all ages, this Boutique Vintage Festival is probably the best kept secret in the Cardiff event calendar! Set in the past, in The Library Gardens in Whitchurch Village, it celebrates all that was great from the 1940′s 50′s & 60′s. Though not essential, lots of people dress up for this event in celebration of the era and our WTC representatives will be wearing vintage tennis clothing!

It is an opportunity for you, friends and family to dress up to the nines in timeless style, amongst a crowd of people doing the same.
