OPEN DAY – Saturday 26 April 2 – 5 pm

Our early season Club Open Day is coming up this weekend.

And with 20% OFF membership for new members, there’s no better time to come down, see what the Club’s like and maybe get on court. There’ll be lots of on-court activities for young and old … and the bar will be open and the BBQ on for members and visitors alike!

YC SPORTS will be at the Club, too, with a range of new rackets to try out plus lots of other shoes, clothes and kit.

Opening Day Success!

DSCN1311_500x375The season officially kicked off for WTC members on the afternoon of Saturday 12 April with an American Tournament organized by this year’s Tournament Secretary Steve Cumines. The weather was overcast but plenty of members turned out for an entertaining afternoon of tennis.

DSCN1318_500x375After a ‘hard fought’ final, the tournament winners were club stalwarts Steve Osborne and Renata Parry. Never again will members have to hear Renata say that she’d ‘never won an Opening Day tournament in over 20 years’! So that’s a relief …

And in the evening there was also a great turnout for the now traditional Opening Night Quiz. The Clubhouse was full! Special thanks to Huw and Dan who manned the bar all evening and to Jack and Sue who provided a superb array of food (3 choices of mains and 2 desserts) – all for £3.50 a head! How did they manage that?

The quiz itself went all the way down to the wire with many teams in contention right up the the last music round. There ended up being only a half-point between the top 2 (136 to 135.5, believe it or not!), with ‘Eddie’s Team’ triumphing after admitting to being able to recognise ‘popular’ American singer Kid Rock on the final question.

DSCN1332_600x450Eddie’s Team’s captain and secret weapon was whippet Eddie (on the right of the picture), whose proud owners Andy and Jen Rose teamed up with Matthew and Renata Parry to take the title of Quiz champions 2014. Yes, Renata won again! Less than gracious losers commented that family ties to quizmaster John may have been a factor …

Special mention should go to Julian Rosser who was proud to be able to distinguish between Leon Trotsky and Spencer Matthews from Made in Chelsea. That’s the kind of all-round knowledge you need in the WTC Quiz – but better brush up on your ‘Kid Rock’ in case John does the music again next time …

Courts Clean Up In Progress

Daytime visitors to the Club in the past few days may have seen that some of our courts have been getting a bit of TLC. Power washing of the courts has been removing the dirt, algae (and even tennis ball fluff) that inevitably builds up in the porous crevices of the court surface.  Moss killer is also being used where necessary. This will aid drainage, reduce any slipperiness and generally make the courts look and play as well as they can.

The Clubhouse sliding glass door has been repaired and some of the window glass has been replaced. The final pane is due to be changed on Tuesday afternoon, so members with young children are asked to be extra careful if they’re around while the work is in progress.

2014/15 Membership Renewals Underway

All existing Club members should by now have received a renewal email or letter from Membership Secretary Julian Rosser. If you haven’t, please get in touch with Julian straightaway so you don’t miss out on the discount for renewing your membership by 30 April.

You can pay your renewal in one go or spread your payments over several months if you’d prefer. Contact Julian for further details.

Renewals are coming in already – if the bar’s not open you can always pop yours in an envelope through the post box on the cellar door at the back of the clubhouse. Job done!

Watch England v Wales at WTC

It’s always the first fixture rugby fans look for when the 6 Nations calendar is announced. This year, if you’re not Twickenham-bound, why not watch the match that means the most in the Clubhouse on the big screen? The bar will be open and Huw Davies has promised to serve up hot roast beef sandwiches to make sure the food is as tasty as the match should be!

It’s SUNDAY 9th MARCH, kick-off 3.00pm.

WiFi comes to WTC

Get connected in the Clubhouse! WiFi is now available in the Club for all members, guests and visitors. The new BT Hub can connect laptops, tablets and smartphones to the internet quickly via WiFi in one of two ways.

Direct via the BT Hub – select the club hub from your available networks, enter the password and that’s it! The hub identity and password are posted up in the Clubhouse. It’s free to connect and there’s no limit to how long you’re on. Smartphone users may find that using the hub’s WiFi is quicker than 3G, too.

Alternatively, you can connect to the BT Wifi network. There are 1000′s of BT WiFi zones all over the place these days and they’re free for BT broadband customers. The club hub acts as a BT Wifi zone, so if you’re already a BT broadband customer at home you can use your own BT log-in and your own password at no extra cost. If you’re not a BT customer with a BT log-in, the BT Wifi network will try to charge you! So it’s probably best (and cheapest) to connect direct through the club hub.

Either way, you can now surf the net in the Clubhouse to your heart’s content!
