Pre-Season Tidy Up on 24 March – Volunteers Needed!

Attention All Members! We are holding our annual Groundwork Day to spruce up the club, courts and grounds 0n Sunday 24th of March from 10am to midday.

Bring secateurs, a broom, a hoe, a spade or anything else that may help get the club looking back to its best after a long winter. Come for a couple of  hours, come for half an hour but would really appreciate if you can spare a bit of time. This year it will be co-ordinated by Dave Gaughan so please drop him an email ( davidwgaughan@hotmail.com) or text (07966362941) if you’re able to help and what you can bring along to help with the tidy up.

Opening Day Tournament & Social Evening – 30 March

Opening Day 2019

The afternoon will see an “American Italian” Doubles Tournament taking place between 2pm and 4pm mixing all age ranges and abilities for a fun packed event.

Then from 7pm we have a fantastic Italian-themed evening featuring authentic Italian Pizza by Ffwrnes Pizza, speciality wines and beers with Karaoke providing the back drop to see in the new season. Tickets will be available at the bar from this Wednesday 13th March.

WTC Lease Update

Update from the WTC Committee about the current lease position:

The club served a notice on the landlords in January to force them to say whether they were looking to develop the site or not. While they are not seeking to end the tenancy at the end of 2019 they have told us they do want to take the site back in 2-3 years’ time. We can only suppose this is for the purposes of development.

We are taking further legal and other professional advice about how we can best resist this threat.

If the landlords remain on this course, then there is a high risk that we will have to go to court to fight for a new lease on reasonable terms.

We would like to thank everyone from across the community for their support.  It has been amazing and has been invaluable as we take the fight forward.

We will keep everyone informed of developments and hope we can count on the continuation of the support shown so far as we battle to ensure the club remains a valued community asset for many more years to come.

The Club’s Annual General Meeting which will take place on Thursday 31st January from 8pm in the Clubhouse. The AGM is the opportunity for members to hear about the work of the committee over the last 12 months and critically, to get an update on the situation with the lease.

There are still opportunities to join the committee and contribute to the running of the club. If you wish to nominate a club member for a vacant post, you should get their agreement before putting forward his or her name. If you are willing to volunteer to fill a vacancy yourself but cannot attend the meeting, please inform a committee member who will ensure that your name is put forward for election. Nominations for members who have not held posts previously at WTC or who have not held a post of any kind in the last year or two are particularly welcome. Nominations should be sent to the club chairman, Mike Lubienski (mikelubienski@ntlworld.com), or to the club secretary, Dave Walton ( damawa02@gmail.com) at least 7 days before the AGM.

Additionally, if you have any suggestions for changes to club rules these need to be sent to the club chairman, Mike Lubienski, in writing at least seven days before the meeting.
